![]() ![]() ![]() Sree Vishnu delivers a stupendous performance, both as the carefree Sagar and heartbroken one, striving, for his father’s love while refusing to turn into an emotionless robot and supress himself to lead a life deemed good by others. The fact that most people lead fake lives, pretending to be happy and misconstruing capitalist gains for happiness is something that is made pretty clear in the film. But while it is clear that the man only seeks to redeem himself and change his ways for the love of his father, it is never really made clear if the father truly loves his pride and ‘maan maryada’ more than his son. On the other, is a father wanting nothing but the best for his son and hence, hoping against hope that he mends his ways and learns to lead a life that everyone approves of. On one end of this tale is a man broken into a million pieces due to the curveballs life, his parents and the society keep throwing at him. Sagar represents every person who’s neither studious nor creative, neither ambitious nor exceptional, and yet aims to lead a happy life doing something that he is capable of. And when someone fails to fall in line with this carefully-constructed system, all hell breaks loose. The film holds up a mirror to the society that in our country getting good grades and settling in a high-pressure, high-paying job are more important than happiness. The words ‘kramasikshana’ (discipline) and ‘settlement’ hold heavy connotations in the film, something that most Indians can associate with. But what happens when, despite his best attempts, Sagar fails to fall in line with the system – that’s what ‘Needi Naadi Oke Katha’ is all about. He decides to redeem himself in his father’s eyes and seeks the help of the studious Dharmika (Satna Titus), who introduces him to the motivational works of a speaker (Posani Krishna Murali). He fails in his exams three times in a row, much to his father’s chagrin, and does something silly that tarnishes his father’s reputation greatly.
